Country, Device, or OS Restrictions
Apple Pay and Google Wallet availability varies significantly by country, device model, and operating system version. If any of these fall outside supported ranges, a LocalCard will fail to add.
✅ Countries where Apple Pay is NOT supported
If a user lives in or has their Apple ID set to one of the following, they cannot add a LocalCard to Apple Pay:
Most African countries (except South Africa)
China (Mainland) – only supports UnionPay cards
Russia (service suspended)
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal
Many Middle Eastern countries (except UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar)
Some Southeast Asian markets (e.g., Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar)
Important: Apple Pay is supported in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, EU, Singapore, Japan.
✅ Countries where Google Wallet is NOT supported
Google Wallet availability is more limited than Apple Pay. LocalCards will fail if the user is in:
China (Mainland) – no Google services
Russia
Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh
Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos
Most of Africa (except South Africa)
Google Wallet is supported in Australia, NZ, USA, Canada, UK, most of Europe, Singapore, Japan.
✅ Unsupported Devices
A card cannot be added if the device:
Does not have NFC hardware (many budget Android devices)
Is an iPhone older than iPhone 6
Is an Android device without Google Play Services (e.g., Huawei phones post-2020)
Is a smartwatch paired to an unsupported phone
Is rooted/jailbroken (wallet provisioning blocked automatically)
✅ Minimum OS Requirements
A card won’t add if the OS is too old:
Apple Pay: iOS 12+ required (16+ recommended)
Google Wallet: Android 7.0+ with NFC + Google Play Services
If the device is running an outdated OS, the wallet may appear but provisioning will fail silently.
