Why Was My Card Declined?

Updated today

There are a few common reasons a LocalCard gets declined. Here's what to check.

Insufficient balance

The most common reason. Your card can only be spent up to the available balance.

What to do: Log in to app.localcard.io to check your current balance.

Merchant restrictions

If you have a Merchant Locked or GeoLocked card, it may have been declined because the merchant doesn't fall within your allowed category or location.

What to do: Check your card type in the LocalCard app.

Incorrect card details

For online purchases, a typo in your card number, expiry date, or CVV will cause a decline.

What to do: Log back in to app.localcard.io and retrieve your details carefully.

Card not in wallet

For in-store tap-and-pay, your card needs to be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet first.

Card expired

What to do: Log in to app.localcard.io to check your expiry date.

πŸ’‘ Tip: If none of the above apply, reach out to our support team β€” we can see more detail on our end.

⚠️ Heads up: Repeated failed attempts can sometimes cause a temporary block. Contact support if you think this has happened.
